How Premier Linen Services tripled its throughput

When Carraigh Linen acquired Premier Linen Services in June 2025, the goal was clear: create a stable, safe and scalable laundry operation capable of supporting significant future growth.

To achieve that ambition, Premier Linen partnered with WSP to redesign, integrate and optimize the entire production process. Together, we developed a clear roadmap for the future of the operation, starting with a detailed blueprint and 3D visualisation of the laundry’s transformation.

The challenge

Following the acquisition, Premier Linen Services faced the challenge of increasing capacity while improving operational stability and process control.

The laundry operated with equipment from multiple manufacturers, providing flexibility but also creating complexity. Limited visibility into production performance and traceability made it difficult to optimise processes and support future growth.

The objective was not simply to increase throughput. The operation needed to become more reliable, more efficient and more sustainable, while maintaining the flexibility to continue evolving in the years ahead.

The solution

WSP developed a phased improvement programme, beginning with a complete operational blueprint for the future laundry.

Rather than replacing existing equipment, we integrated the best elements of multiple manufacturers into one centrally controlled operation. WSP controls were implemented across the tunnels, shuttle systems, conveyors and dryers, creating a stable and fully connected production environment.

At the same time, complete batch traceability was introduced. Every wash batch receives a unique identification number that follows the process from washing and transport through drying, separation and final drop-off.

This provided full visibility into production performance, allowing the team to monitor throughput, improve process control and make data-driven decisions.
